Welcome to the VitaLife show! I'm doctor Janine Bowring and today's topic we're talking all about the top seven diet tips for treating PCOS which of course is polycystic ovary. The number one on the list is decreasing the sugar in the diet so all the white food whether that's white sugar, as well, as you know the bad carbohydrates white flour, white bread these tend to be empty calories but they do spike insulin levels and insulin imbalance is very much related to polycystic ovaries, so this is first and foremost you really have to decrease those sugar levels within the diet. Number two on the list is even decreasing fruit juices because even though their natural they still have that negative affect on the insulin and actually spike the insulin levels which is also related to polycystic ovary so this is really important to really watch those juice levels. Increasing the amount of lower glycemic fruits is so much more helpful for treating polycystic ovaries so things like apples, pears, plums, fruits that are lower on the glycemic index berries is while among my favorites because they're so high in antioxidants but of course don't have as much sugar and they wont spike the insulin as much and have a negative affect on the ovaries in polycystic ovaries. Also including lower glycemic index vegetables is really important as well because we don't want to have those starchy vegetables and again spike the insulin levels so you know we want to stay away from things like carrots and potatoes increasing things like sweet potatoes which tend to be low on the glycemic index and alI the leafy green vegetables are the best way to go when you're treating polycystic ovaries. Not to mention that the dark leafy greens also help to detoxify the liver and its the liver toxicity that I have found in my patience is very much related to polycystic ovary syndrome so you really want to make sure that you're always detoxifying and one of our supplements called Vita detox helps with the detox process all the internal organs it's the first supplement that I put all my patients on that have polycystic ovaries so that's first and foremost check it out at vitatree.com. It's one of my most favorite supplements and probably one of our most popular here at Vitatree. In terms of detoxification all the internal organs including the endocrine organ and the female reproductive tract helping to get the balance back into the system in treating all the symptoms related to the hormones be coming out of balance. Next on the list is increasing the fiber in the diet. Fiber also help to balance a manages the insulin levels and one of the easiest ways is to take psyllium fiber and we actually created Vitamucil at Vitatree to give you the very best easy to digest form of psyllium husks that is a soluable fiber in actually help to clean the inside walls of the colon and this is really important for polycystic ovaries as well. Increasing the amount of healthy fats, the omega 3's in the diet is a paramount and it's so important that again you're getting your both from the diet but also from the right type of supplement. So in the diet increasing natural nuts and seeds is important staying away from the inflammatory fats unsaturated fats as much as possible and supplementing with a high quality omega 3 higher in the DHA as opposed to the EPA and the best formula for this of course is the Vita fish oil my creation from Vitatree nutritional to be higher in the DHA to have those benefits of the anti-inflammatory effects but also helping to balance the hormones. Increasing the amount of good quality protein in the diet is also very important for polycystic ovaries helping again to balance those insulin levels and proteins help to give us energy they also help to maintain our muscle mass and so exercise you know working out maintaining muscle mass as well as you know keeping the hormones balanced through exercise is really important as well.
