My name is Steve Atwater; a former NFL player with the Denver Broncos and New York Jets. I’ve lost 21 pounds with Retrofit. When we’re playing football, we’re working out 2 or 3, 4 days a week. Then once we finish playing, normally, most people work out some but not nearly as much as they did when they played, and I was in that same boat. I worked out 3 days a week, but then gradually, you cut back to 2 days a week, then 1 day a week, and then sometimes I wouldn’t work out any. The more sedentary that I became, it seemed like the more weight that I added on. I hit the high point of 278 pounds. I looked at the scale, I said, “I know I’m not that big.” I couldn’t lose the weight that I want to lose. I couldn’t get back to the weight that I wanted to be at, and that was really frustrating for me and it really was at one point started to mess with my self-confidence because I look in the mirror, I’m like, “Wait. That’s not the same guy. You’re not the same guy that you were when you played ball.” Fortunately, I was able to find Retrofit after trying just about everything else. I started losing weight. I remember just getting down under 255 for the first time. I was so happy. Then I hit 249, I was like, “Yes. I broke 250,” and then my goal was 245, and got down. Then I got under 240 and I couldn’t believe it. It didn’t seem like I had did anything major. It just seemed like I was just doing the same thing but making small adjustments along the way. My wife, she would tell me, “You eat so much differently now. You eat so much healthier.” It didn’t really feel like dieting because I just made small adjustments. I’m amazed that I was able to lose weight without putting in the same amount of physical work that I did back when I played ball. It’s really similar to football in that we had coaches in football, and we’re used to having people who know what they’re talking about; coach us to be more successful. Lindsey has been really valuable to my success primarily because we communicate so frequently. Whenever I’d post something, it seems like she’s there looking at it when I post it, and she’ll respond back within 5 minutes. Everybody on the team would make comments. I’m like, “Yeah,” and it really felt good. It felt like you make a good play in the game and the coach come off the field and hit you on the head, “Yeah, great job.” The technology certainly makes it simpler to be able to get on a Skype call or to be able to record my information in a timeline, and then be able to see it in real time. That’s incredible because if I had to go and schedule an appointment to do this once a week or once every 2 weeks or something, it just wouldn’t be feasible. My mindset now is totally different. When I go into restaurants, I don’t worry that I’m going to overeat or that I’m going to get something that’s not good for me. Sometimes I go in and look at the menu and wouldn’t have any idea what I want. I’d end up with a big plate of pasta, a lot of cheese and meats; totally not good for me. I would feel miserable for days. Now I have very little indigestion, which I used to have all the time, and I just make a lot better choices. My daughter, she used to tease me about, “Daddy, you’re big. Your arms are jiggly. Look at your neck.” It never hurt my feelings because I used to joke around with her quite a bit with my stomach and everything. Now she says, “Daddy, you’re so skinny.”
