((HOS MILY FRANCES HOW TO MOM TV)) Hello everyone. This is Emily Frances. Welcome to How to Mom TV. Today we are gonna talk about a weighty issue. What is the appropriate amount of weight to gain during pregnancy. We hear stories about women like Jessica Simpson and Jenny McCarthy who get pregnant, eat everything they’ve deprived themselves of for most of their life and gain 60 or 80 pounds. Or sometimes you may see friends who are so skinny, you cant’ even tell they are pregnant. Veteran OB/GYN Dr. Janics Marks has been practicing in New York City for 2 decades. says it is essential to gain weight for the health and nourishment of your unborn child. But there’s a fine line between not gaining enough weight and gaining too much weight. ((DR. JANICE MARKS/ OB/GYN) eight gain in pregnancy is recommended to be approximately 25-35 pounds but really 20-40 pounds is a more reasonable range. Weight gain in pregnancy is reflective of what you eat. The more carbohydrates you eat, the more you’re going to gain. The extremes are where I find the problems. If you don’t gain 20 may not gain enough for baby to attain its correct size and if gain over 40 pounds, you may gain so much weight may impede in the delivery process.
