Eat All Day and Lose Weight -- Kathleen Zelman -- UHC TV

I got an interesting question this week. How can I eat all day and still lose weight? Sounds like the title of a great new weight loss book. But the good news is you can. The challenge in grazing or eating multiple meals throughout the day is making sure that each meal is contained and not large. Keeping small portions you can eat every couple of hours. The trick is keep the portions small, make sure you have a source of protein. It's good to also have a source of fiber and good carbs. So by doing that you keep your blood sugar energized throughout the day which is really good to keep you going. If you have the protein and the fiber you're going to feel full so that smaller meal will take you to your next smaller meal and it can be really beneficial. There are studies that have shown you might even lower your LDL cholesterol by grazing and eating healthfully. You just have to make sure you choose the right food. So some examples you could always have breakfast, don't ever skip that meal. And maybe at breakfast you might have an egg and a piece of whole grain toast. And then maybe a few hours later you might have a yogurt, a Greek yogurt that's higher in protein with some nuts. Maybe a few hours later maybe you'd have a sandwich and a glass of lowfat milk. You might have as a snack a salad. So you just have to basically look at your total calories for the day and most women need about 1600 calories a day to lose weight but that of course is based on your activity level, that's just a ballpark number. But if you do eat frequently, and you do control the portion sizes you indeed have a great chance of losing weight. But you can also do it in three square meals a day, too. So it depends on your lifestyle so if you're a grazer and you like to eat just make sure you plan ahead and you don't overeat. At the end of the day kind of look back or use one of the trackers, the free trackers that you get online and take a look at the number of calories you're eating and you'll want to try to stay in that 1600 calorie range if you're going to lose weight. But, graze away and good luck.
